ODSC

The client

The Open Data Science Conference (ODSC) is a series of annual events held in Boston, San Francisco, Brazil, London, and India. Founded in 2015, their goal is to bring together the global data science community in an effort to encourage the exchange of innovative ideas and the growth of open source software. The events bring together thousands of attendees, bolstered by a thriving online community.

The challenge

ODSC attracts some of the biggest names in data science, covering seriously complex technical subjects. Our founder Alan was invited to pitch ideas for talks in 2017. This was a fairly intimidating prospect, since many of the other speakers are PhDs and notable experts in their field. However, we felt that there was space in the programme for discussing the human side of data, and how to communicate data insights effectively.

The results

Alan has now appeared as a speaker at five ODSC conferences (mostly in-person, once virtually) as well as satellite events and meetups. We've focused on data storytelling, but that has also led us to cover different tools and channels, how to build data visualisation cultures and teams, public perceptions of data, dashboard design, and the role of AI. Feedback to the talks has been really positive, which is why we keep getting invited back.

Testimonial

It was such a pleasure and honour to have hosted you at ODSC Europe. "Bringing Data to the Masses Through Visualisation " was extremely popular.
