EmPower Network

The client

Southwark Council’s EMpower network aims to raise aspirations of and improve career prospects for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnicity (BAME) staff through facilitating and promoting various networking, learning and development and peer-to-peer mentoring opportunities.

The challenge

The Empower network wanted to provide their members with high-quality workshops in different aspects of business communication. The attendees were from a wide range of different roles within Southwark Council. Also, as our engagement with the network overlapped with the Covid pandemic, we needed to find ways to deliver interactive workshops both in-person and over webcam.

The results

We delivered several workshops, both in-person and remotely, which were praised by all of the attendees in terms of their interactivity and contribution to professional development. In particular we were able to develop a bespoke workshop on ‘Mastering remote communications’ to help teams make the transition during the pandemic.

Testimonial

“The EMpower Network commissioned the content creation workshop to understand how to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. In light of covid-19, it’s more important than ever to communicate clearly especially as we’ve moved to remote meetings. The workshop was very insightful and Alan was a very engaging speaker making sure all attendees contributed and worked through real-life examples. Attendees praised the usefulness of the workshop and especially liked the content generation framework with one saying 'It has changed the way I think about communicating and given me a toolkit that I will use in both my work and personal projects'.”
